About

  • Second Sun is the electronic solo project of Jacob Rasmussen, a musician, producer and sound artist based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He has more than 20 years of experience with music, and has played with countless acts of a wide variety. He furthermore has a Master’s degree in Musicology from the University of Copenhagen, 2020.

In 2022 he launched his electronic solo project Second Sun, with the debut album Planetary Movement. Since then, he has released a handful of records, played an extensive amount of live performances, and engaged in sound installations and mixed media art.

Second Sun is a part of the Copenhagen Based electronic music label Petite Victory Collective.

  • The sound of Second Sun consists of ambient soundscapes, cinematic impressions, and ethereal textures. It is reflective and unhurried, and creates musical and emotional spaces for the listener to deep-dive into - sometimes with a beat, sometimes not.

Second Sun works mainly with hardware instruments such as modular synthesizers, tape machines, and effects pedals. His workflow is intuitive, exploratory and reflective, and revolves around creating deep and rich atmospheres and sonic spaces.

  • Second Sun has performed in a wide variety of settings, both conventional and unconventional ones.

Performing in the unique space of the Culture Tower on Knippels Bridge, doing an improvised live session with Caspar Hesselager; playing ambient church performances and meditation concerts; opening for the Belgian avant garde trio MDCIII at Loppen; and collaborating with rope artists at AFUK presenting a creative fusion of bodily movement and electronic music - are just some of the highlights of Second Sun’s mission to explore and develop ambient and electronic music scene, both locally and globally.

  • “Rasmussen's music is delicate, beatless, and layered ambient which builds slowly over time, alternating between fragile moments of faint beauty on the one hand and intense, energetic crescendos on the other.”

    - Christian Villum, Perfectly Deep (jun. 2022)

“Det er lange klangflader der åbner rummet, mens synkoperede basloops ruller ud over gulvet som en tåge, og prikkende motiver hopper hen over loftet. Vi er på en rejse i det kosmiske, udover uendelige afstande mellem galakserne, hvor selv de mest monumentale begivenheder er fjerne. Det er et sted, hvor man kan drømme sig væk.”

    - Marcus Behrens, Salt Peanuts (jan. 2023)
